I’m part of a research project under Jen Gilbert that has just launched a survey looking at how teacher candidates talk about LGBT issues. I’m hoping for two things.
1. I’m hoping that you’ll pass along the information attached and especially the survey link to your network of education students, and
2. I’m hoping that FESA members will also participate in the survey!
I really believe this is important research, not only for LGBT students and teachers but for all teacher candidates and with implications for members of school communities.

ARE YOU A STUDENT TEACHER?
WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND
TRANSGENDER (LGBT) ISSUES AND EDUCATION!
Student Teachers are invited to participate in a research study
exploring how we teach and learn about LGBT issues in education.
What did you learn about LGBT issues in schools? How do you think we should talk with
youth about LGBT issues? How do you feel when you think about LGBT issues
arising in your classroom? We want you to take part in our study
by writing responses to questions like these. The stories you can tell us are an
important part of our research.
Your participation in the study will take approximately 45 minutes to
complete on-line. For participating you will be entered in a draw to
win one of fifteen $50 gift cards. If your name is chosen to win a
gift card, you will be contacted by e-mail.

Urban Diversity Wikondiak Fundraiser

Urban Diversity will be hosting a fundraising event for Wikondiak on Thursday April 5th at Fox & Fiddle on Keele and Finch at 1/2pm – whenever!
We have the room downstairs for this event and all are welcome! We are asking for $5 cover or whatever change you can offer!!

Opportunity to be interviewed by Chris Bennett

Hello ED 3 Students!
We are emailing to inform you all of an interesting opportunity that arose this week at the FESA Office. We recieved a call from a CBC Reporter named Chris Bennett who is interested in conducting a one-on-one interview with Faculty of Education students at York. Here are some of the details he provided:
They are looking to conduct the interviews as soon as possible- this would depend on the individual students’ availability but sooner is always better. As this would be a video-recorded interview, they would send cameras out to conduct the interviews at your home or – if permissible – somewhere within the Faculty of Education, maybe classes.
You will be asked to discuss the study that was conducted in the lastest issue of Professionally Speaking addressing the difficulty teachers’ college grads face trying to land a teaching job. Some questions may be along the lines of: how do you feel about the statistics in the study? Are you worried about finding a teaching job after graduating? What steps are you taking to make sure you are successful in finding a teaching job?
